Paper Tested / Privacy

Privacy and cookies

The short version: this site doesn’t set any cookies of its own, and it doesn’t know who you are.

Who runs this site

Paper Tested is run by me, Dean, in the UK. I’m responsible for any personal data the site handles. If you have a question about privacy, email me at [email protected].

What the site stores on your device

Just one thing. The site remembers whether you’re shopping in the UK or the US, so it can show the right shops and prices. It keeps that in your browser’s local storage under the name bp_country, holding only UK or US. On your first visit it guesses from your browser’s language, and it updates whenever you use the “Shop in” selector.

That setting stays on your device and isn’t sent to me. You can clear it at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser. The site itself sets no cookies.

Analytics

I use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how the site is doing. A small script from Cloudflare counts page views and measures how quickly pages load. Cloudflare says it doesn’t use cookies or local storage for this and doesn’t fingerprint visitors. I only ever see totals, such as the number of visits, the most-read pages, the sites that sent people here and visitors’ countries. I can’t see who you are.

There’s no Google Analytics, no advertising trackers and no social media widgets.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare’s servers receive your IP address and basic browser details when you load a page, so they can deliver it and keep the site secure. You can read Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Fonts

The typefaces (Newsreader and Source Sans 3) are served from this site itself, so loading them doesn’t send any requests to Google or any other font service.

Affiliate links

Some shop links are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. When you click an Amazon link, you leave this site, and Amazon may set cookies on its own site to record that you came from Paper Tested, so it can pay me a commission. Nothing is set on this site, and you pay the same price. Amazon’s own policies apply there: the Amazon.co.uk Privacy Notice and About Cookies.

I may also join shops’ affiliate programmes run through networks such as Rakuten Advertising and Awin. Those links would work the same way: once you click through, the network may set cookies to record the referral. Their policies: Rakuten Advertising privacy policy, Rakuten Advertising cookie policy and Awin privacy policies.

The newsletter (coming soon)

There isn’t a newsletter yet. When there is, I’ll only use your email address to send it to you. Every email will include an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time. I’ll update this page to name the service that sends it before anyone signs up.

If you email me

If you write to [email protected], I’ll use your name, email address and message to reply. I won’t add you to any mailing list.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask what personal data I hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how it’s used, and to get a copy of it. Just email [email protected]. The ICO has a guide to these rights.

If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your data, I’d like the chance to put it right first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

If anything here changes, I’ll update this page and the date at the top.
